Dirk Nowitzki can sometimes be the forgotten superstar in the NBA. His game isn’t flashy; he hasn’t won a title, and is often labeled as weak. While I have been very opinionated on Dirk’s leadership through my blogs over the last year, I will never question his play.

FoxSports.com’s Charley Rosen was asked by an emailer this past week to rank his top ten international players of all-time. While No. 1 and No. 2 are more than acceptable, to have Dirk Nowitzki at No. 5 is actually just a joke.

Rosen’s Top Ten:

1.     Hakeem Olajuwon (Nigeria): Perhaps the most skilled big man ever to play in the NBA.

2. Steve Nash (Canada): Makes his teammates look better than they really are.

3. Pau Gasol (Spain): Long rather than strong, but is the Einstein of current big men.

4. Manu Ginobili (Argentina): The best sixth man in recent memory.

5. Dirk Nowitzki (Germany): Can do everything except lead his team to a championship.

6. Yao Ming (China): The 21st-century version of George Mikan.

7. Tony Parker (Belgium/France): Catch him if you can.

8. Dikembe Mutombo (Zaire): Defender and rebounder extraordinaire.

9. Detlef Schrempf (Germany): Fritz-of-all-trades and Meister of most.

10. Drazen Petrovic (Croatia): Had the quickest release ever.

Ginobili? If your head is hurting at this point, so is mine. Ginobili is a nice player, but if you were going to start a NBA franchise, who would you rather have?

It’s amazing how much the national media can forget everything the Mavericks have accomplished over the past ten years. While there have been no titles, it’s not like Dallas has been the Clippers of the Western Conference.

If championships are that important in making a great NBA player, let’s kick Malone, Ewing, Stockton, and Barkley off the Top 50 NBA player list created in 1996.
