Over the last few weeks, the Cowboys have been adding and subtracting coaches from their staff, and today the entire new staff (with the exception of head coach Jason Garrett) met with the media.
Here is a list of the seven new coaches:
Rob Ryan, defensive coordinator
Matt Eberflus, linebackers
Brian Baker, defensive line
Ben Bloom, defensive quality control/linebackers
Jimmy Robinson, assistant head coach, wide receivers
Mike Woicik, strength and conditioning
Walt Williams, assistant strength and conditioning
Take away the two strength and conditioning guys, and you have four new defensive coaches, compared to one new offensive coach. And that makes sense, given how bad the defense was in 2010.
I don't pretend to know anything about these new coaches besides what I've read on their bios. But even if this is change for the sake of change, that's fine. This organization was in obvious need of a shake-up, and the new coaches represent that. Over the next few weeks and months we'll find out how much change happens to the roster itself.
Now we just have to wait and see how long it takes before the players and new coaches can work together. The lockout is only a couple weeks away, and it's coming.
