PLANO - Plano East won their first round playoff game last weekend, but things are about to get a lot more interesting for Head Coach Johnny Ringo.

Ringo coached at Irving MacArthur from 1995-96. Plano East beat Irving MacArthur in the first round of the playoffs.

This week, his Panthers face Coppell, a team he coached from 1997-99. But, Coppell is different. He stills lives there and his wife works for the Coppell Independent School District.

"She knows where her loyalties need to be," he said. "It's kind of funny. Hopefully, there won't be anybody I have to play after this one that I used to coach at."

On top of that, his daughter is a student at New Tech High in Coppell. But, he said she too will be on Plano East's side at 11 .am. Saturday, which is when the Panthers will take on Coppell at Cowboys Stadium.

"I think she's going to be cheering for us," he said. "We've already had that discussion. She's got a lot of friends over there and a lot of players that play on the team are good buddies of hers. But, she loves her daddy, so I think she'll be cheering for the Panthers."

Good thing he doesn't have a son. That would really complicate matters.
Ringo also coached from SMU from 2000-04 before going to Plano East. But, no matter how far Plano East goes in the playoffs, that's one team he doesn't have to worry about.
