Outfielder Jake Smolinski left Friday night's game with a left elow contusion, the club announced during the game.

Smolinski, who set a franchise record with eight hits in his first four games since being called up from Triple-A Round Rock Monday, was hit in the left elbow by a Garrett Richards fastball in the bottom of the second inning.

He was examined by manager Ron Washington and a member of the training staff at first base, but stayed in the game as a baserunner. Smolinski would be retired on a Carlos Peña fielder's choice before Daniel Robertson replaced him defensively in the top of the third.

X-rays were negative on Smolinski's elbow.

Smolinski was batting .571 (8-for-14) with four RBI heading into Friday's game.
