A couple of former Mavericks coaches will hook up in New Jersey Wednsday night, and they'll be coaching against — who else? — the Dallas Mavericks.
Dallas and New Jersey will be playing, and Kiki Vandweghe will be the head coach for the Nets, while former Mavericks assistant and the Frisco D-League General Manager Del Harris will be on the other bench. Harris leaves his post with the Frisco team.
What a small world when you consider that Vandeweghe was the first player ever drafted by the Mavericks in 1980, but never played for Dallas. Years later, he would come back as an assistant for the Mavericks, a position he held for two years.
Harris was announced as the D-League General Manager on November 5. Donnie Nelson, owner of the Frisco franchise which has yet to play a game, says, "Wow -- our first NBA callup and we don't even have a name (for the team) yet."
The Mavericks will play the Nets at 6:30 p.m. CST Wednesday in New Jersey.
