As of midnight Saturday, NBA teams can contact free agents, and the most coveted player is North Texas native Deron Williams, who has played with the Nets since 2010.

It's no secret that the Dallas Mavericks would like to add him to the roster, and ESPN reports the point guard will meet with the Mavs and the Brooklyn Nets on Monday. Williams has said he wants to make a decision before he reports for the Olympics on July 7.

Williams was a high school basketball star in The Colony.

It looks like Mavs will hang on to Vince Carter. Dallas exercised its rights just after midnight and picked up a team option on a contract that will pay Carter just over $3 million next season.

For the first time in eight years, Jason Terry is not a Mavericks player; he is now a free agent.

Terry is the longest-term teammate of Dallas star Dirk Nowitzki, and was the only Mavs player besides Dirk who was on both the 2006 NBA Finals team and the 2011 championship team.

If the Mavs are able to secure Deron Williams, it could mean the end of Terry's career in Dallas.

Dallas veteran Jason Kidd is also up for grabs. The future Hall of Famer spent part of the weekend golfing with Deron Williams. There's even speculation that the two will go as a package deal to the Nets or the Mavs.

Other former Mavs who are now free agents include Delonte West, Ian Mahinmi and Brian Cardinal.
