The Dallas Mavericks are just two weeks away from opening day -- an opening day that won't have star player Dirk Nowitzki in the lineup.
Knee surgery is going to keep him out at least a month, and probably longer.
Appearing on "Dale Hansen's Sports Special," Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson was asked if there's any way the 2012-13 season could get off to a worse start. Nelson said his goal is to take this team back to the NBA Playoffs.
