DALLAS, TX - The Mavericks signed Peja Stojakovic on Monday but it may be a while before he takes the floor.
"That's something the coaches will have to decide. I'm hoping it's going to be soon," Stojakovic says. "It doesn't matter how much you practice. I think as soon as I get out there, it'll be better for me and I'll be able to get my wind back and get that playing rhythm back. That's something we have to talk about with the trainer and with the coach."
Stojakovic says he had irritation in one of his knees along with some swelling which lasted longer than he expected. He said the doctors told him it's nothing major.
"The way they explained it, every athlete my age has it,” Stojakovic says. "You just manage it. Right I'm going in the right direction and hopefully I'll be one hundred percent soon."
Stojakovic was waived by Toronto. He played only eight games for the Raptors this season with the Raptors and the New Orleans Hornets.
The main thing he says he can bring to the team is health. "I'm going to try and contribute to this team," Stojakovic says. It's up to the coach what kind of role he's going to give to me."
Dallas is hoping Stojakovic, who has averaged 17.2 points per game over his career, can replace some of the scoring punch lost when Caron Butler went down with a season-ending injury.
