DALLAS — It's now been decided: The Dallas Mavericks will face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Western Conference finals.
The first game is Tuesday night in Dallas; the Mavs will have home court advantage in the series, which will determine the matchup for the NBA Finals.
It took seven games for the Thunder to beat the Memphis Grizzlies Sunday afternoon 105-90.
The Oklahoma City crowd was chanting "We Want Dallas!" at the end of the game. Mavs star Dirk Nowitzki said his team is rested and ready.
"From today on, four teams are left," he said. "We'll see who's the lucky one at the end."
North Texans are getting ready to show off their Mavs spirit as the Thunder heads south on Interstate 35.
Several Dallas buildings will be bathed in royal blue lighting to back the team. St. Ann Court on North Harwood switched its lighting scheme on Sunday night.
Tickets for Game One are already sold out; they remain available on resale Web sites for about double face value.
On the Border's 25 area restaurants are offering free "Go Mavs!" yard signs to customers. Their goal: To distribute 250,000 signs.
"They responded to their e-mail, to the Twitter accounts and their Facebook," said On the Border store manager Tom Rauch. "I've had probably 25 phone calls, I've had 25 people show up taking one or two signs because they just want to back the Mavericks."
Another promotion involves a popular soft drink. Starting Tuesday, buy Dr. Pepper products at Kroger stores and you can get a free "Time is Now" royal blue T-shirt.
In addition, Academy Sports and Outdoors is giving away yard signs with a $50 purchase.
Would you like to win free playoff tickets? Show up at Victory Park in Dallas Monday starting at 5:30 a.m. with your face painted, showing off your Mavs spirit. Representatives from the Mavericks will be live on News 8 Daybreak to judge the most creative painted face. The winners get tickets.
If you want to get ready for the Western Conference finals, tune in to a News 8 Sports special: "Destination NBA Title" Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. on Channel 8.
Among other things, Dale Hansen will tackle the question of where does Dirk Nowitzki fit among draft picks by local pro sports teams.
