Would getting Martin excite you?
According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Dallas Mavericks have serious interest in acquiring Kings guard Kevin Martin. The Kings have stated that they would not move Martin until right before the Feb. 18th trade deadline. Martin, who is 26, is averaging over 25 points a game and could provide the dual scoring threat that Dirk Nowitzki needs.
According to Stein’s source, the Mavericks would move 6th year veteran Josh Howard in the deal. This is the last year on Howard's contract, all though there is a team option for next season, making him a valuable financial bargaining chip. Martin is due nearly 36 million dollars over the next three seasons.
While financially it would be beneficial to the Kings, the Mavs would more than likely have to include something in the package. Possibly a draft pick, or one of their younger players.
Currently Dallas is 4th in the league with an estimated 84 million dollar payroll. The Kings sit at 22nd in the league, at 63 million.
