SURPRISE, Arizona — During their World Series runs of the past couple of years, the Texas Rangers have shown a great ability to handle adversity.
A big reason why is their team captain, Michael Young.
And now the captain's back. Young and shortstop Elvis Andrus exchanged pleasantries as they arrived for spring training in Surprise, Arizona on Saturday.
Now that the gang's all here, it's time to get down to work.
They say last year's devastating World Series defeat is behind them, and they're ready to defend their American League championship.
"All around, you've got to feel blessed and happy for the season," Andrus said. "It happened two years ago; it happened last year; so we'll try to get better again and get to the post-season and win it all."
"The only thing we really focus on is, we know we're a good team," Young added. "We know that we're going to win a hell of a lot more than we lose, so I mean, that's a good feeling to have. We know that the American League is really strong, so we're going to be ready to go out and play hard and play our game."
The Rangers open up Cactus League play one week from Monday in Surprise against Kansas City.
