PEORIA, AZ - With many Texas regulars staying back to work out in Surprise, the Rangers fell to the Mariners by a score of 5-4 this afternoon at the Peoria Sports Complex.
Chris Davis started at DH and went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. With the club trailing 5-2 in the 9th, Davis delivered a 2-run single to cut the deficit to one, but was stranded at 2nd base to end the contest.
David Murphy and Brian Barden (2 hits) also drove in single runs for the Rangers. Arthur Rhodes retired all 3 batters he faced in the 4th inning, including 2 by way of called 3rd strikes, while Zach Phillips and Mark Hamburger also chipped in 1.0 scoreless frame each.
Former Ranger Milton Bradley went 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI for Seattle, while Adam Kennedy and Steven Baron connected for solo home runs, the latter of which would prove to be the decisive run. Texas is now 1-2 in Cactus League play this spring.
The Rangers return to Surprise tomorrow where they will host the LA Angels of Anaheim for a 2:05 p.m. CST first pitch. Right-handers Tommy Hunter and Dan Haren are slated to get the start for their respective clubs.
The broadcast will be made available through an online webcast at www.texasrangers.com with pre/post game host Bryan Dolgin joining long-time Rangers voice Eric Nadel on the call.
