Yu Darvish is back, and back with a vengeance.
Last year's Cy Young runner-up recorded seven shutout innings in his first start off the disabled list, and became the fastest pitcher in major league histroy to reach 500 career strikeouts in the Rangers' 3-0 win over Tampa Bay Sunday.
Darvish accomplished the feat in 401 and two-thirds innings, three innings quicker than previous record holder Kerry Wood. The third-year Ranger fanned 2013 AL Rookie of the Year Wil Myers in the first inning for his 500th career punch-out.
The full line on Darvish's 2014 debut: 7 IP, 0 ER, 7 H, 6 K, 1 BB. He threw 65 strikes on 89 pitches (73 percent).
With his six strikeouts, Darvish now has 504 career strikeouts. Charlie Hough has the most career strikeouts in a Ranger uniform with 1,452. Nolan Ryan fanned 939 batters as a Texas Ranger.
