There was no joy in the Bronx... or Brooklyn... or Manhattan Saturday morning as fans of the New York Yankees digested the demise of their elite team at the hands of the Texas Rangers.
"Curtain falls on bumbling Bombers," said a headline in the New York Daily News next to a photo depicting Alex Rodriguez after his season-ending strikeout at Rangers Ballpark.
In an online poll, Daily News readers were split between A-Rod and manager Joe Girardi as the Game 6 "goat."
Referring to the Yankees' gold-plated payroll, the New York Post headline blared: "$210M BUST!"
The lead story noted, however, that Rangers pitching ace Cliff Lee "will draw serious interest from the Yankees when he becomes a free agent."
