DALLAS - There are 24 days and counting until the NBA season starts and there are a lot of new developments and a bit of drama.
It all circles around who and who may not be on the Mavericks championship team when the pre-season resumes December 18. The Mavericks first game will be against Oklahoma's Thunder at the American Airlines Center.
Voluntary team practices began Thursday morning, after almost five months of being off court due to the NBA lockout.
Early reports have showed that Jason Terry and Dirk Nowitzki are definitely on the roster, but Chandler, who Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has said repeatedly is his top priority to resign from the team, has told ESPN that he plans to be with a new team at the start of training camp on December 9.
Other wheelings and dealings with the Mavericks that must be resolved to keep the current roster intact includes free agents J.J. Barrera, Caron Butler, DeShawn Stevenson, Brain Cardinal and Peja Stojakovic.
If any of the players leave, the assumption is that Cuban will join the free agent bidding for Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Dallas area native Deron Williams.
The Mavericks website says season tickets are available now, although when you click on the link, it leads to nowhere. The Mavericks have also provided a phone number for fans prepared to order. It's 214-747-6287.
