MIDLOTHIAN, TX - Former Cedar Hill basketball coach David Milson died today. Milson spent 23 years as the head coach at the school and had retired in April of 2010.
A few months later he found out he had lung cancer, a type called adenocarcinoma. It's the same type of cancer usually found in smokers although he wasn't a smoker.
Eddie Berumen, his right hand man and his assistant for 10 years at Cedar Hill, said Milson died at his home this morning.
Milson coached 32 seasons, 23 at Cedar Hill. He had 676 victories. His teams were the Class 5A State runner up twice.
Milson never seemed to mind that he didn't have any superstars come out of his schools. He said he always believed that you win with average people doing above average things.
Joey McGuire, the football coach at Cedar Hill, said he always sought advice from Milson who became his mentor.
Milson was 53.
