If the Dallas Cowboys are to improve on their 2009 post season play and advance deeper into the playoffs; home field advantage might be an area of concern.  Unfortunately the Cowboys haven’t won a road playoff game since the ’92 season when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers on January 17, 1993.

And if that 17 year drought is not enough to catch the team’s attention, maybe this little statistic will:  No team has ever played for the Super Bowl title on their home field in the 44 year history of the big game.  However, the San Francisco 49ers came close after travelling 30 miles from home to play the Miami Dolphins at Stanford Stadium in Palto Alto, California. Just in case you are wondering, the 49ers spanked the Dolphins 39-10.

There is little question that hosting post-season games has its advantages...no travel, home cooking, home fans and  familiarity with the stadium and playing field. Hosting teams, even in cases of two evenly matched teams, usually result in a three point advantage for the home team.

The Cowboys organization will take center stage of the sports world when they host the 2011 Super Bowl in Arlington, TX. Now the only thing Jerry Jones has to figure out is how to build a winning team that can position itself for the biggest home field advantage in the history of football.
