IRVING - After five years with virtually no star power, the Byron Nelson teed off its opening round Thursday with a roster of championship players, including four from the world top 15 and nine in the top 50.

One of the biggest draws is two-time former Nelson champion Phil Mickleson. He returned for the first in five years. Along with Ernie Els, he teed off at 7:30 a.m. The highest ranking golfer in the mix is Matt Kuchar. Kuchar teed off at 12:30 p.m. The winner from last year, Keegan Bradley, teed off at 12:40 p.m.

Byrson Nelson is one of North Texas' biggest sporting events and there is a little something for everyone, including a kids' zone, tributes to legendary golfer Byron Nelson and a live concert at 9:30 p.m. featuring Kelly James at the Pavilion.

Sunday's winner of the Nelson walks away with over $1.7 million and 500 FedEx points.
