WEATHERFORD - A father and his child were rushed to area hospitals after their vehicle was struck by a car involved in a pursuit in Weatherford.

"This was a very severe accident that resulted in very critical injuries to several of the victims involved," said Lt. Chris Crawford. "The investigation will take several days and the suspect will likely be charged with several felony offenses as a result of his reckless actions."

The pursuit began after authorities received a call about a suspected drunk driver at about 5:45 p.m. in the area of 100 South Lamar Street.

Authorities said as they answered the call they received two more calls of hit-and-run accidents involving the same suspect. In both of those incidents, injuries were either minor or non-existent, authorities said.

The suspect's car was eventually spotted by authorities on Fort Worth Highway and a pursuit ensued after authorities attempted to pull the suspect over. The pursuit led authorities into the city of Hudson Oaks, which was where the suspect's vehicle slammed into a Honda Accord at the intersection of Palo Pinto Street and South Bowie Drive. A third vehicle was also struck in the accident.

Authorities said while the 28-year-old suspect appeared to have no injuries, an eight-year-old boy and his 49-year-old father, who were both in the Accord, were critically injured. The child was taken by CareFlite to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth and the father was taken by ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Weatherford police said the suspect faces several criminal charges.
