An Amber alert has been issued for five children displaced by Hurricane Katrina who have been moved from Houston to the North Texas area.

The children have been abducted by Rhonda Tavey, a 44-year-old, white female, police said.

The children are all African American, and have black hair and brown eyes.

The children are Rod Keesa Alphonse, female, age 8; Alaysa Alphonse, female, age 6; Yasmine Alphonse, female, age 4; Eric Alphonse, male, age 3; Erin Alphonse, male, age 3.

The children and their mother have been residing with Tavey since their displacement by Hurricane Katrina but Tavey has refused to turn the children over to their mother.

News 8 spoke to Tavey Wednesday in Fort Worth prior to the Amber Alert announcement.

Tavey told News 8 she was saving the kids from her own mother.

"Their parents are into drugs, crime and I know God put these kids into my hands to take care of," she said.

Tavey is believed to be driving a blue 2004 Chrysler Town and Country Van, Texas License Plate 963-PTB and may be in the Dallas area.

Tavey has been charged with five cases of kidnapping and there are five felony warrants out for her arrest.

Please contact police if you have any information about the children or the suspect.
