Meth-sick baby's pregnant mom admits habit

The mother of an 8-month-old baby that tested positive for methamphetamines last week admitted to using the drug the day the stimulant was found in the infant's system.
While police said they originally believed the incident was an intentional crime, they now said they're unsure due to conflicting stories.
Outside the courtroom where Whitney Walker, 21, battled for the return of her 8-month-old, Logan, and her 20-month-old, Mariah, the mother announced she is a meth addict.
"I'll stay clean," she said. "I'll take classes. I'll start going to church."
Walker, who is six months pregnant with her third child, said she wants her children back bad enough that she is willing to work to kick the drug habit.
"I don't think I have a bad drug problem, but I do need help of some kind," she said. "I want help of some kind, and I'll do whatever I need to do to get my kids back."
The state took custody of her babies after Logan became sick and tested positive for a high level of meth last Thursday. The infant was taken from his grandmother's apartment in Richland Hills. Originally, police said they suspected the grandmother.
But Walker said she and the baby's uncle brought meth into the home and possibly dropped some of the powder where Logan could get to it.
"I know it was an accident," Walker said. "I know my mom wouldn't hurt my kids. I know she wouldn't."
Walker also admitted she did meth while pregnant with Logan and Mariah; and despite being pregnant presently, also said took the drug last week.
"I wasn't on drugs that day, but I probably had it in my system," Walker said of the day Logan was taken to the hospital.
The state will keep Logan and Mariah while Child Protective Services case workers check into other family members willing to take the children. The state said they will also arrange for drug treatment for Walker.
Police have not filed criminal charges in this case. The baby's uncle denies bringing meth into the apartment.
