DALLAS — A father faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault after a wreck Sunday night that killed his two young sons.
A makeshift shrine to the victims appeared Monday morning at the scene of the crash in the 6900 block of Skillman Street.
Police said Jose Salvador, 24, was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Blazer carrying eight people—including his wife and four children—when it crossed a median at a high rate of speed around 7:45 p.m.
"He hit a tree, flipped over, hit another tree," said Dallas police Sgt. Patrick McAlvey. "As a result of the collision and the rollover, we have two young children who are deceased and others who have received different degrees of injuries."
Five-year-old Eduardo and seven-year-old Jose Salvador were killed. Two teenagers in the SUV—Jesus Salvador, 15, and Rafina Lira, 16—may have suffered paralyzing injuries in the wreck, Dallas police Senior Cpl. Donna Hernandez said.
According to investigators, blood tests revealed signs of cocaine and alcohol use by Salvador. No one who was killed or injured was wearing a seat belt.
This is the third fatal rollover accident this weekend in Dallas, police said.
