Pupils raise funds for student's NFL dream
07:00 PM CST on Saturday, December 9, 2006
It's HOG week - that's Helping Others by Giving week - at Timberview High School in Mansfield.
And this year, students teamed up with the Make-a-Wish Foundation to help a fellow teenager with a dream.
Meet Dillon Reed, a 14-year-old with sickle cell anemia.
His dream is to attend the NFL Pro Bowl, a dream students at Timberview High want to come true.
"It's not for us, it's for Dillon, so I'm here to support Dillon and get our student body together," said senior, Kim Hill.
Dunking, face painting and games - all part of a series of fundraisers to bring in at least $8,000.
"Dillon has never been out of state or on a plane, so it will be pretty exciting," said a teacher, Heather Mills.
A trip to Hawaii is the goal.
And students say they've been working all week to make it happen.
"He needs help to know people are there for him, they care for him," Mills added.
And somewhere in the midst of it all, students admit they've gotten more out of this fundraiser than Dillon ever will.
"People are getting a sense of community," said Hill.
"It's my senior year and I think it's going to be my most important and biggest experience ever."
The students will find out if they reached their goal of $8,000 on Monday.
