Showers, thunderstorms forecast for much of Texas

Showers and thunderstorms were possible across parts of Texas on Tuesday but the heat is holding on.

A heat advisory was in effect through Tuesday evening across much of the area around Houston and Galveston where heat indices of up to 105 to 107 were possible.

Forecasters for the National Weather Service predicted showers and thunderstorms in several portions of the state on Tuesday with temperatures dropping into the upper 80s in the South Plains.

Partly cloudy skies with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms were forecast for the South Plains. The lows should be in the mid-60s.

Temperatures should climb into the mid-90s under partly sunny skies for South Central Texas with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy skies with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms were forecast for Tuesday night. Lows should be in the lower 70s.

A 20 percent chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms was forecast for Far West Texas under partly cloudy skies. Highs near the mid-90s were possible. A 20 percent chance of rain was forecast for Tuesday night with lows reaching the upper 60s.

In North Texas, mostly sunny skies were expected with 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday morning. Highs should be in the upper 90s with party cloudy skies Tuesday night and lows in the upper 60s.
