First heat-related death reported in Garland

03:33 PM CDT on Tuesday, June 23, 2009

WFAA-TV staff reports

A Rowlett man is thought to be the first person this year to die from the heat.

Kevin Malczewski, 53, was found dead inside his car outside a Garland motel on Saturday.

He had been staying in the motel, then had checked out, police said.

There is speculation that he may have laid down to take a nap.

Dallas temperatures were expected to reach 100 degrees on Tuesday.

The triple-digit temperatures, which are expected to last through the week, are arriving a bit earlier than normal since Dallas-Fort Worth normally reaches 100 degrees on July 1, according to the weather service.

Dallas Morning News contributed to this report.
