THE COLONY - A family in The Colony said it seemed like a scene out of a horror movie as they watched a swarm of angry bees fly right towards their home, finally nesting just above their front door.

In a time when beekeepers say there aren't enough bees, the Ryan family said they have too many.

Rusty and Kathy Ryan haven't been able to use their front door since Friday. Some of the European honey bees have even found their way inside their house.

Mr. Ryan shot home video from inside his house as the frenzied bees flew in and around an eave just above the front door.

“All of a sudden, we heard this buzzing, and it sounded like a horror movie,” he said. “We looked up in the air and there were thousands and thousands of bees heading toward our home.”

The Ryans' daughters said they had never seen anything like it before.

"Of course, the place where most the traffic happens at our house, the front door, they choose to stay there,” said Kathryn Ryan, the Ryans’ daughter.

North Texas beekeepers say the number of honey bees has been dropping over the last few years. They blame diseases, drought conditions and the use of pesticides. For those reasons, beekeepers who need more bees are wary of taking in wild swarms.

"If I knew how to get the honey out of them, I would be more than happy to have them, but I don't want to learn right now,” Kathryn said.

Bee removal experts say while bees can swarm up to ten times a year, June is their busiest month.
