DALLAS - Former first lady Laura Bush spoke about women's health and also offered an apology to her neighbors in an interview with News 8 Monday.

Bush recently showed off her new Preston Hollow home, giving Good Morning America a tour of her backyard and showing anchor Robin Roberts a sculptor she bought from a Texas artist and a hammock she and former President George Bush have yet to use.

"It was fun to get to show Robin around," Bush said. "She actually saw the inside of the house and she saw how it's not very furnished and not quite finished, but it was fun to have Robin. I always like her."

Monday, Bush said she wanted to say sorry to neighbors for any traffic their move to neighborhood has brought.

"Every once in a while we do see that and I want to apologize to our neighbors," she said of people driving by trying to get a glimpse of their home. "I don't know that our neighbors like it so much that they're on the tour for Dallas people who have friends in town, I guess to go drive by the former president's house."

But, Bush said she was delighted to be back in Dallas continuing her advocacy for women's health.

"The most important thing in breast cancer is early detection because if detected early then it can be treated successfully," she said. "So, I want to urge American women, and everybody listening to us, to remember to get routine mammograms and remember to do self breast examinations, and if you find a lump to get right to the hospital."

Texas Tech University has named its Women's Health Institute after the former first lady.

Bush said she is proud of the recognition and made it clear she will work tirelessly to promote any initiative that uses better research and education to help save lives.
