ALLEN — The Collin County Sheriff's Department said a car fire sparked a grass fire near Bolin Elementary School Friday evening.

After the fire was reported shortly before 7 p.m., the Allen Fire Department called for mutual aid from neighboring agencies — including Parker, Lucas, Fairview and Branch — to help guard against the flames spreading to nearby structures.

The burn was successfully restricted to an open area as firefighters dealt with water supply problems.

The fire was reported out about an hour after the first alarm.
