BRIDGEPORT — Two people were injured Friday morning when their small plane crashed southwest of Bridgeport in an incorporated area of Wise County.

Wise County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Johnny Btitton said the crash involved a two-passenger Chinook Ultralight aircraft which went down around 11 a.m. in a stand of small trees along County Road 3519 near FM 920.

The pilot, identified as Jim Sears of Paradise, was taken to a hospital by helicopter ambulance in critical condition. Passenger Douglas Campbell of Corinth was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, Britton said.

The crash scene is two miles southeast of Bridgeport Municipal Airport. Britton said the aircraft had taken off from a private airfield in the area.

A witness told investigators that the plane appeared to stall out when it was flying at an altitude of several hundred feet.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash.
