10:42 AM CST on Monday, March 2, 2009

The Associated Press

CRYSTAL BEACH -- A boil water advisory in effect since shortly after Hurricane Ike hit Bolivar Peninsula has been lifted as supply lines return service to normal.

A statement from the Bolivar Peninsula Special Utility District says customers are no longer required to boil water prior to consumption.

The utility, in a statement Saturday, says samples tested by the Galveston Health District found no harmful bacteria in the water supply.

Water supply lines have been rebuilt throughout Bolivar Peninsula, which took a hit when Ike made landfall Sept. 13. The boil water order had been in effect since Sept. 15.

The Bolivar Peninsula Special Utility District serves High Island, Gilchrist, Caplen, Crystal Beach and Port Bolivar.
