LEWISVILLE - A-five-year-old Lewisville girl will become an honorary firefighter after saving her family's life.

During the recent ice storm, carbon monoxide seeped into the house after the family turned on the fireplace.

At 2:30 a.m. that morning, Bailey Allen's parents awoke to her warning them that the house alarms had sounded off. When they searched the house, they found no indication there was a problem. Bailey's dad told her to go back to bed.

"That's when Miss. Bailey wasn't going to have any of it," said Rondi Allen, Bailey's mom, of her daughter's continued concerns.

Strong-willed and not ready to take a chance, the child grabbed her dog "Sherman" by the collar and told her parents she wasn't going to stay in the house.

"When an alarm goes off call 911 and leave the house as fast as you can," Bailey said.

Bailey woke up her brothers and led the whole family out of the house.

"I said, 'It's all right. It's all right, we're safe now right,'" Bailey said.

And Bailey was right, there had been a problem. Carbon monoxide was leaking unknowingly from their fireplace.

"They took us all to the hospital and in the hospital the doctors and nurses were already telling Bailey she was a hero," Allen said.

"You know, the kids are always a lot smarter than we give them credit for," said Steve Carter, Lewisville's firefighter division chief.
