Texan gets probation over bigamy in Las Vegas

01:58 PM CST on Tuesday, January 27, 2009

WACO, Texas -- A Texan who said he didn't think his Las Vegas marriage to his girlfriend was "real" or legally binding must serve probation for bigamy.

A judge in Waco yesterday sentenced James Byron Montgomery of Moody to three years of deferred adjudication probation. Montgomery in December pleaded guilty to bigamy.

Montgomery was arrested last year after McLennan County sheriff's deputies got a call from his estranged third wife, who found out about the May 2007 nuptials. The two had been separated.
