| Recommended Plano hotel holdup suspect shot dead

PLANO — Plano police shot and killed a holdup suspect who was holding a motel clerk at knifepoint Tuesday morning.
Units were dispatched to the La Quinta Inn at 1820 Central Expressway after receiving a hangup 911 emergency call around 11:15 a.m.
The first officer to arrive said he saw a middle-aged white man holding a knife to the throat of a clerk in the motel's lobby.
The suspect was ordered to drop his weapon, police said. When he did not comply, the officer opened fire.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. He later died.
The female clerk was not hurt.
