From Pennsylvania Ave to Preston Hollow, the First Family is about a week away from moving into their new home.

In an interview with News 8, the Bushes talked about coming back to Dallas and getting back to the simple things.

Preston Hollow has become something of a tourist hotspot since the Bushes decided to buy a home in the neighborhood.

Laura Bush has described the house as "the perfect home."

The president joked that he had not seen the house and is relying on his wife's good judgment.

The cable guy spent Monday night at the houses getting things ready for the Bushes.

Bush said he would "finally be going out to do the grocery shopping" and he may look "emaciated because [Laura's] got to learn how to cook."

It has been 14 years since the Bushes have had to care about the basics.

Cooking and cleaning have been taken care of since their years in Austin.

A night out on the town also sounds pretty good to Bushes.

"Y'all start seeing us at restaurants - a lot, just like people did before we moved to Austin," said the First Lady. "I'm looking forward to that."

Laura Bush said she came to Dallas about once a month last summer to house hunt and fell in love with the 8,500 square foot Preston Hollow home.

"It's got a beautiful back yard... it's on a pretty quiet street," she said.

“I think the set up of it - the actual floor plan of it - is nice for empty nesters,” she said.

Their immediate plans are to focus on the presidential library at SMU and reconnect with old friends.

"We had a lot of friends before politics. They were our friends during our time in office. They are going to be our friend afterwards, regardless of what happened during the time in office," said the president.

They are expected to attend their old church, the Highland Park United Methodist Church, where one of those old friends, Mark Craig is still the pastor.

"We know there is a life out there for us that we will enjoy and it will be productive," said Laura Bush. "We're looking forward to being citizens of Dallas again, of Texas again, the promised land as George calls it," she added.
