Thief steals $57,000 limo from Dallas storage unit

BY BLANCA CANTÚ / The Dallas Morning News

Dallas police are looking for a thief who made off with a $57,000 stretch limousine.

Henry Vassei, owner of Elegant Limousine, said today that he is baffled after learning that someone broke through the metal fence at Security Self Storage in the 3300 block of Forest Lane around 6 a.m. Sunday, cut the padlock on his storage unit and drove off in the luxury limo.

According to police, the keys were inside the vehicle.

Vassei’s office is located on Dallas Parkway, but Vassei said he kept the limo in a storage unit to keep it safe and protect it from sun damage.

Vassei said whoever stole his limo seemed to know exactly where to go.  Surveillance video shows a man getting in and out of the unit in about four or five minutes, he said.

Vassei said he doesn’t have any idea who is responsible.  He and his brother are the only ones with keys to the unit.  He said he is upset that the storage facility didn’t protect his property better.

“They should at least have some alarm system connected to the police,” Vassei said.

A woman who answered the phone at the Forest Lane storage facility deferred all questions to the company’s corporate office.

Mike Palmer, a corporate operations manager, said the company is investigating and he could not provide further comment.
