Cold front expected to move into Texas

A cold front was expected to bring cool temperatures for partygoers celebrating New Year's Eve in Texas, but warm weather was expected to be back by New Year's Day, according to the National Weather Service.

In North Texas, skies should be sunny with highs in the 50s. Overnight lows were expected to drop into the mid-30s. Wind gusts of up to 25 mph were possible around Dallas and Fort Worth, making the temperatures feel even cooler.

Cold temperatures were expected early in the Panhandle, with wind chill values between 20 and 30 possible. Skies were forecast to be sunny with highs in the lower 50s. Overnight lows were expected to drop into the 30s.

In Central Texas, skies were forecast to be sunny with highs in the 60s around Austin and San Antonio. Lows overnight should drop into the 30s.

Fog was expected to move ashore from the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, but it was expected to lift by late morning or early afternoon. Skies in the Houston and Galveston areas should be mostly sunny with highs in the lower 60s. Overnight lows should drop into the 40s.

There was a slight chance of rain in the Rio Grande Valley and a widespread chance of fog before 9 a.m.

In West Texas, skies should be sunny with highs in the 50s. Lows were forecast to drop to near 30 with wind gusts up to 20 mph possible.
