Lighting up in Mansfield could soon get a lot harder.

The growing city is considering changing its smoking ordinance for restaurants.

This push, if it happens, could be expensive.

The changes would mean restaurants would have to follow the lead of one restaurant, No Frills Grill and Sports Bar.

If you turn right at the establishment, you will likely enjoy a casual, smoke-free dinner with your family.

Go left, and you're on the more adult side.

Diners are more likely to be having a cigarette and a beer.

Some council members seem to think the No Frills Grill has the right idea.

"I don't think the choice is fair that I expose myself to increased cancer risk when I eat a meal in one of the restaurants in Mansfield, Texas, when many cities around don't allow it," said James Rudnicki.

There are 15 restaurants in Mansfield that allow smoking.

Including the No Frills Grill, only three enclose their smoking sections, to ensure smoke stays in designated areas.

City members voted last night to consider an ordinance to make all restaurants do the same.

Council member Mike Leyman was the only no vote.

He is concerned about the cost.

"I think we need to look at this very objectively before we require someone have to spend an awful lot of money in these economic times," he said.

Council members have already made one concession.

Under the proposal that passed last night, restaurants have been given a year and a half to implement the changes.

In a month, there will be a public hearing on the issue.
