WILMER — A Wilmer police officer on routine patrol ran over a man's body late Monday night.

The incident happened shortly before midnight on Millers Ferry Road just south of Green Road, next to the Cottonwood Creek mobile home park.

Kimberlee Leach, a spokeswoman for the Dallas County Sheriff's Department, said the man was lying in the darkened road when he was struck. It was not immediately clear why he was in the road or if he was already dead or injured when hit.

Investigators at the scene said the police car did not contribute to the man's death.

The victim's identity was withheld until his relatives could be notified.
