Home invasion turns deadly in Tarrant County
11:16 AM CDT on Sunday, September 21, 2008
TARRANT COUNTY — An intruder died and his victims were wounded during a bloody home invasion in northwest Tarrant County late Saturday night.
Sheriff's department investigators said the man demanded money after breaking into the house in the 9200 block of West Fork Trail near Eagle Mountain Lake around 10:30 p.m.
When the residents — a man and a woman — said they didn't have much to give him, a struggle ensued.
The woman was able to break away and call 911. Her husband was still grappling with the intruder when she met deputies outside.
"They got in there, he continued to struggle," said Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson. "They say even after they got him handcuffed that he continued to get up and try to get away. And at some point, with the amount of blood he was losing that he went unconscious, and then he expired."
The man was taken by helicopter ambulance to the hospital; his wife went by ground ambulance. Both are expected to survive. Their names, and the name of the intruder, were not available.
An elderly woman was also in the house at the time of the incident, but she was not hurt.
