FORT WORTH — Three Tarrant County jail inmates may face new charges after a failed escape attempt Wednesday and scuffle that injured three county workers, the sheriff's office said.

Around 8:30 a.m., three inmates were being escorted to a recreation area on the eighth floor of the jail in the 300 block of Belknap Street.

“They never made it off the floor,” said Terry Grisham, a Tarrant County sheriff’s spokesman.

“They were on the roof. Any effort to escape would have been futile," he said. "There are numerous levels of security they would have needed to escape."

Two jailers and a maintenance worker were taken to a Fort Worth hospital after they were cut with an unknown, homemade weapon, officials said. The names of those injured have not been released.

FWPD
Accused killer Erick Davila failed in his escape attempt.

Among those facing charges are:

• Erick D. Davila, 21, is accused of murder, capital murder and injury to a child after a birthday party shooting that left the girl and her grandmother dead.

• Herschel Jerome Hurd, 21, is charged with four counts of aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.

• James Dwayne Edwards, 24. is accused of evading arrest and aggravated robbery.

The trio could face new charges including attempted escape and assault on a public servant, Grisham said
