FORT WORTH — Plenty of folks in Fort Worth are concerned over the idea of natural gas pipelines running through their neighborhoods.

They're taking those concerns to a Barnett Shale workshop today.

Hundreds of people are attending the meeting.

Many are wearing buttons saying: "Whoa."

They think the process is going ahead a little too fast.

They came here with a number of concerns.

Fort Worth is considering permitting more than 6,000 to 7,000 wells within city limits. More than 1,000 have already received the green light.

"Pipeline safety, compressor stations, noise, water usage, safety of drill sites, health concerns, green space, quality of life, zoning, eminent domain have not been thoroughly discussed," said Cathy Hirt.

"I hope we can get their side of the story, I want to hear what they have to say," said Jim Beckman from the Gas Drilling Task Force.

This is a larger protest than normal.

Representatives from the parties involved in development of the Barnett Shale are attending the meeting.
