DALLAS — Police have urged Uptown residents to be vigilant as the number of burglaries in the area hit 30.

At a recent crime watch meeting, police said about 200 concerned Uptown residents gathered to hear Dallas Police Department precautionary tips.

Shae Armstrong, who walks his dog "Fletch" in his Uptown neighborhood, said he has noticed a change in the area since the recent rash of burglaries.

"The one difference you do see here is people are more alert to neighbors, more aware of people going into their community [and] walking down halls," he said.

Shae Armstrong says he's noticed a change in his neighborhood.

Armstrong said he knows two people who have been ripped off recently from the burglars who drill holes through doors to break into the locks. Like most of the victims, he said they had been out of town at the time they were targeted.

"Both boarded their dogs, both got hit [and] everything [was] taken," Armstrong said.

Late last week, Dallas police released surveillance pictures of two suspects, who both appear to be white and wearing baseball caps. It appears one of the men may have tattoo on his right forearm.

Police also distributed a list of precautions for residents, including forming crime watch groups, watching out for neighbors, using light timers and leaving radios on within the homes when leaving the residency.

Meanwhile, at least one Uptown apartment has put metal rings around door locks to keep the thieves from drilling the locks.
