Armored truck flips over in Colleyville, 2 injured
05:26 PM CDT on Tuesday, June 24, 2008
COLLEYVILLE - Two men were rushed to a hospital and a road was closed down after an armored truck flipped over Tuesday in the 2600 block of Hall-Johnson Road in Colleyville.
The driver and a passenger in the armored car were injured while the armored car flipped, landing on its roof.
Rumors spread of money swirling down the streets after the crash, which was quickly proven untrue. Instead, it was radiator fluid and diesel fuel that leaked onto the street.
Witnesses said the Loomis armored truck was swerving down Hall-Johnson Road, and uprooted a tree right before it crashed.
"It flipped twice," said Anna Peters, a witness at the scene who called 911. "It hit a second tree and uprooted that. I got out of my car and just ran up and said, 'Stay calm.'"
Both men inside the truck were taken to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital. While one of the men got out of the car on his own, the other was transported by CareFlite to the hospital.
No details on their injuries have been released yet.
Police are investigating the scene in an attempt to discover what led to the accident.
Colleyville is about 15 miles northeast of Fort Worth.
