CARROLLTON — A Carrollton standoff ended Wednesday night when an officer fatally shot the suspect after authorities said he pointed a gun at police.

Authorities said they were alerted shortly after 9 p.m. that a man had barricaded himself inside a friend's home in the 2300 block of York Court after the two had gotten into a fight.

They were told that the man had locked himself inside a room with several weapons, which was when residents were able to flee the scene and call authorities, police said.

SWAT officers were called to the scene. Authorities said as the officers prepared to enter the residence, the suspect exited and pointed his gun at officers "in a threatening manner."

Police said an officer fired at the suspect, fatally striking him once with a bullet. The suspect was taken to Trinity Medical Center , where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the man who was shot was not available.

The officer who fired the fatal shot was placed on leave, according to department policy.
