TERRELL - A teacher at JW Long Elementary has been charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child.Less than 24 hours after the allegations arose, police arrested 51-year-old Salvador Mata in his Kaufman County home Sunday morning.

"We received an outcry from a child at the age of 14 through her family that there was sexual contact," said Captain Arley Samson, Terrell Police Department.

Police said actual physical evidence brought about Mata's arrest. Investigators said the assault happened on campus and the unidentified victim was one of Mata's students,

A News 8 background check on Mata, who has worked for TISD since 2000, didn't uncover any past problems.

Mata has been placed on administrative leave indefinitely as the investigation continues.

Mata teaches English as a second language to third graders.
