ALLEN -- Horns honk, blood pressures rise, and temperatures flare. Those are all common symptoms of gridlock. Imagine if your drive each morning was bumper to bumper, both ways. Drivers on Greenville Ave. and Stacy Rd. in Collin County know that feeling well.

If anyone knows how bad the traffic problems are on Stacy Rd., it’s Fairview doctor Snehal Kolhe. “Very frustrating, and especially doing it so many times in a day,” said Dr. Kolhe.

Dr. Kolhe drives back and forth several times a day, from her office in Fairview, to see patients at Presbyterian Hospital of Allen. She spends much of that time sitting in gridlock, no matter what time of day. “As opposed to 5 minutes, I drive about 15-20 minutes on the same drive,” said Dr. Kolhe.

During the morning and afternoon rush hour, traffic on Stacy Rd. is backed up more than a mile. Even motorcyclists like Matt Robertson are frustrated. “It’s not good at all. I mean there’s cars backed up everywhere, down through here,” said Robertson.

Greenville Ave. during rush hour is filled with car after car. Getting through the intersection at Stacy Rd. can be a challenge for any driver’s patience. Construction is under way for a huge mall, arena, and office park on both sides of Stacy Rd. Even before the complex is built, the two roads are outdated, handling 10,000 more cars than they were designed for.

“I just avoid it entirely. Unless I’m like going to church or something, right down the street,” said Hannah Dunn, Allen driver.

Construction is also underway on those roads, widening them from two lanes, to six lanes, but relief is still months away.
