Neighbors upset over dangerous dogs return
07:03 PM CDT on Thursday, May 15, 2008
Two dogs were allegedly running rampant in Dallas' Preston Hollow neighborhood. The city pulled them out. The owner, John Harris, promised to never bring them back, but that promise was broken Thursday.
The neighborhood has been up in arms since March. Two people have been attacked. Dozens of neighbors went to a hearing with the city last week. Harris promised he would not bring the dogs back to the neighborhood. Thursday night that promise was broken and his neighbors are upset.
“At what point do we say: ‘Enough is enough.’ Once again, it’s not a persecution of Mr. Harris, it’s not a persecution of the animals. If they have not been able to maintain them, twice, and we have been told that they won’t bring them in the neighborhood, and they do, then yes I have a problem,” said one of Harris’ neighbors.
Harris said that Animal Control released the dogs under several conditions. One of them being that he could only take them to his home. Animal Control denies that. They said that they released the animals and that Harris has 30 days to comply with several conditions.
One of them is registering the dogs as dangerous dogs, under the Dangerous Dog ordinance. He also has to post signs and get insurance. He has a right to have the dogs at his home, but Harris says that he will have the dogs out of there, possibly by Thursday night.
