Tollway White House a 30-year fixture
05:57 PM CST on Thursday, February 21, 2008
When a political research company opened near the intersection of what is now Westgrove Drive and the Dallas North Tollway in 1978 it was an isolated outpost and a reminder of Washington, D.C. at the same time.
Now, it's in the middle of the city and little uplifting landmark for drivers speeding north to Plano and Frisco.
The back-story is that the founder of company was really interested in government and decided to design the building after The West Wing of The White House.
Thirty years later, it's remained an unofficial landmark even as homes and businesses have surrounded the once lonely office.
The current owner, Eclipse Medical and C.E.O. Tom O'Brien, bought the building in 2003 after O'Brien said he tried to buy in 1999.
He says he loves the uniqueness of the building and has turned down offers nearly twice what he paid to sell it.
