Winds blow business to fence repair companies
08:24 AM CST on Thursday, January 31, 2008
After Tuesday's gusty winds blew through North Texas, the fence business has experienced a surge.
Many North Texas fence companies spent Wednesday running multiple, one-man crews to keep up with the demand for wooden fence repairs.
"When it's a wind storm like this, we're going to get anywhere from 10 to 15 calls per day," said Daniel Rankin, with Safeguard Fence. "... We've got about seven today, and the phone is still ringing."
The high winds tossed some fences around like cardboard, leaving many homeowners scrambling to clean up debris and rebuild.
On average, six-foot tall wooden fences with pickets on one side should cost homeowners about $100 to $125 per section to replace. Another rule of thumb is $25 per linear foot.
Higher fences or metal posts can cost more. On average, metal posts add about $3 per linear foot.
Meanwhile, fence repair companies are still answering calls.
"We're booked up until the middle of next week just doing repairs and estimates," said Nick Wilson, Safeguard Fence.
