Some see snow, sleet in North Texas
05:51 PM CST on Friday, January 18, 2008
Light snow and sleet fell on parts of North Texas Monday morning as bands of freezing precipitation moved into the region from the south.
At noon, News 8 Doppler Radar images indicated bands of light sleet and snow flurries moving across Tarrant and Dallas counties.
"We've had some reports of moderate snow down around Waxahachie in Ellis County, but still not a whole lot sticking to the roads," said WFAA-TV meteorologist Greg Fields. "Roads may become a little bit slick in some areas; not icy, though. We don't anticipate any big accumulations."
Midday temperatures were above freezing throughout North Texas.
The mercury dipped into the teens in some parts of the region overnight, and the cold weather is expected to linger for the next few days, Fields said.
National Weather Service meteorologist Jessica Schultz said the coldest temperatures Friday morning affected the Denton area, where it hit 16 degrees.
No cold weather records, however, were being set in the area. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport recorded it lowest temperature, -1 degree, on Jan. 18 in 1930.
On Friday evening, low temperatures will be in the upper 20s, Schultz said.
Another cold front moves through the area Tuesday.
Dallas Morning News staff writer Victoria Smithee and WFAA-TV contributed to this report.
